Outdoor Dream

The clients have a historic brick Colonial home on an unusually large parcel in the heart of town. The home itself is a showpiece, and serves as the hub for their family and community gatherings. But the outdoor spaces failed to maximize the unique lot: its size, the privacy and the flat terrain in what is otherwise a mountain community. The dream was to create an outdoor living and entertaining space that served as an extension to their home, and one that offered modern amenities and improvements to their property.

The design concept for this project first addressed the lack of garage-the one missing piece for today’s homeowner in a mountain town. The small shed-sized garage was removed, and a large three-car garage was added, with an ADU apartment added upstairs. This apartment increases the ability for these clients to age-in-place in their home, by creating a future caregiver residence. In the short-term, however, it’s the perfect rentable unit or guest lodging for their adult children.

The remainder of the project was the addition of the ultimate backyard spaces- a custom inground pool, pool house with sauna, steam shower, bar and lounge, hot tub patio, and pergola/firepit area.
