This kitchen received a major upgrade in style, layout and light! We removed the awkward pantry that was blocking the kitchen from the rest of the living area and reconfigured the layout. New transom windows were added above the cabinets, and the single window over the sink became a double, which improved the light and feel of the entire space. The white shaker cabinets, quartz countertops and glass backsplash all brighten and modernize the space, yet the color scheme is still warm and comfortable. We carried the existing wood floors into the new kitchen to tie everything together.
In addition, we swapped the locations of the laundry and powder rooms. The powder room was originally located directly in the dining space, affording little privacy or separation. We moved it into the existing laundry room, which not only provided a window for the space, but got it out of the central traffic pattern. This area is now a more efficient entry from the garage, with storage, powder room and kitchen pantry located together.
Lastly, we improved the efficiency of the family room by removing the unused 2-sided fireplace and an extra door into the sunroom-giving the family room more usable wall space and a cozier feel. Updated lighting and paint refreshed the space, which now feels like a perfect extension of the new kitchen.
